Five Years---1,006 Posts.......

Wow.

Five years ago today, I started All Things Witham. This is post #1,006. Five years, around 200 posts a year.

SO much has happened. SO much has changed. Pardon me while I ramble.

1) I spend most of my "social online" time now on Facebook, so I am not the rabid blogger I used to be. I also split my blogging time now between three blogs.

2) I have SO enjoyed being able to have a tiny sliver of a lectern in the social media universe. I'm not leaving anytime soon.

3) This blog has always been about everything that has to do with The Withams. Lately a lot of my posts have been political in nature. I can't help it. What's happening in our nation right now is so scary. I must speak out. I appreciate those who comment on the posts, no matter what your political persuasion.


FIVE YEARS AGO/TODAY:

--I worked at Clear Channel/I'm a member of the Facebook group "I Was Fired By Clear Channel".

--My kids were going into the 7th and 2nd grades, respectively./Now I have Robbie's Senior Portraits and Rachel is going into the 7th grade.

--I was married./Still am.

--I was overweight./Still am. :(

--I had sleep apnea./Still do, and now am a Type II Diabetic.

--I was depressed./Not so much anymore! :)

--I was pastoring a church./I'm in year #4 of a sabbatical. It could go on 'til eternity.

--I loved "24"./Some things never change. :)


Tropical Storm Gaston, Bush/Kerry, Jib Jab, Patrick Henry Football, Big Brother, wrestling, "24" live blogging, New Years Eve blogging, fantasy football, Final Four picks, photos, vacation reports, job upheaval, current events thoughts, and the best of my kids. Just to name a very few highlights of five years of ATW.

Horrible Monday sitting at the porcelain god.......

I hadn't thrown up in seven years, until around 4:13am this morning.

Ugh.

Horrible night, horrible day. I just ate some toast and am hoping that sticks so I can take my night-time medicine.

Gotta, gotta, gotta be at work tomorrow somehow, someway!! Unless I'm a carrier of a bug, then I am SURE they won't want me to make my re-appearance.

Your prayers are appreciated.

The TV is on right now. I told Bonnie, I might see the NCAA title game, I may not (and anyone who knows me knows how much I LOVE MARCH MADNESS), I may see "24", I may have to catch up on this episode later this week at Hulu.

You know I feel bad. :( :(

Having said all that, I do think two things:

1) Michigan State is a team of destiny and will find a way to beat North Carolina tonight.

2) Someone will find the antedote to whatever "incurable" condition Jack now finds himself in after being exposed to the chemical weapon two "24" episodes ago.

"24" in the news: the annual Muslim uprising.....

I honestly believe most Muslims in the United States do not feel to the extent that Rabiah Ahmed does.

Check out paragraph four of this article. The grocery store??? I don't remember running around Ukrops this morning trying to find an evil Muslim terrorist.

Then skip down to paragraphs eight and nine, where Fox simply makes sense in their explanation of "24" in its entirety.

Glenn Beck is so right; the best hope we have for an end to Islamic extremism is for the TRUE Islamic community to arise and take back their religion. Push the extremists exactly where they belong---first to the fringe, then over the cliff.

Then, there won't be as many concerns about TV portrayals, or taking visits around town.

AND.........for those of you people who are so hateful, biased, and stupid enough to continue to look at all Muslim-Americans as the murderer coming after you? Do this instead........

.........when you see a Muslim-American, take all your negative energy and think of Osama Bin Laden. HE'S the murderer coming after you.

Well, Chloe fans, it didn't take THAT long for eight months to pass.....

THE weekend is finally here.

Think about it......

---excellent playoff football weekend
---maybe for you a three-day weekend (yes for my wife and kids, me? Not so much)
---and the most anticipated event of 2007 arrives.

"24" IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!

You think nearly eight months has been hard on us fans to wait, think about JACK!! He lived thru 18 months in China! Somehow I don't think we'll see pictures of him, sunglasses and sunhat on, camera around his neck, touring the Great Wall.

I hear TREMENDOUS things about what we'll see as the day unfolds. Rush Limbaugh has seen the first eight hours and says the first four will leave you shaking your head, especially hour four.

AND, I'm happy to announce that the site of last May's "24" Season 5 Finale welcomes us again to the "Season 6 Premiere" of the BEST SERIES ON TELEVISION!!!

Did I mention that "24" was the best series on TV? For my money, it's the best episodic television series EVER.

Remember, before "24", networks never dreamed of "fall finales" and "16 new episodes in a row, no repeats", as ABC is now touting with "Lost" (which they've screwed up royally, and I mean from a scheduling and promotion standpoint, I don't watch the show.)

Have a series with 24 new episodes in a row, with the season only lasting four months???

It worked.

If Kiefer fulfills all three years of his new contract, we'll end up with Season Six, then seven and eight, PLUS, don't forget there's a movie in the works.

Face it, it's the decade of JACK! Well, for most of you "24" aficionados......

For me, it's the decade of CHLOE!!!!!!!

Quick news and notes......

This morning's Richmond Times-Dispatch front page concerning the death of President Ford was incredibly classy and touching. Probably the best obituary front page photo I've ever seen them published (and I delivered their papers for 14 years).

John Edwards is running for President. Yawn. Joe Biden will get a double yawn.

There were, like, three more bowl games today. Why? A friend at work mentioned all the empty seats at a bowl game in California last night between Florida State and UCLA. I guess so. Do you think fans of schools of that caliber are going to go to San Francisco to see an Emerald Bowl? (Note the "spin" on the attendance figure in paragraph two of the story on the game's website.) Apparently, UCLA fans weren't even excited by the fact they didn't have to leave the state to see the game!

Now, what's the over/under on Miami fans flocking to Boise, Idaho for the MPC Computers Bowl?? 500? Am I being generous??

R.I.P. to my one and only Mama, who passed four years ago tonight. Doesn't seem that long. I continue to miss her, and always will.

In conclusion, 17 days until the return of Jack Bauer and "24"!!!! Therefore, you'll know what over half of the blog entries will be effective January 15th!!
